Microsoft recently came out with a new update for the setup tool and it seems that it has made it so that the microsoft setup bootstrapper has stopped working. It’s been a while since I last updated this page, but I’ve seen many reports of the same issue on other sites as well.
If you are trying to get started with W7 or any other windows OS, you may want to delete the 32-bit version of setup.exe along with the 64-bit version (or both). This will ensure that you install W7 or any other windows OS without Microsoft making changes to their own installer.
I have yet to see this issue reported in a way where they have managed to track down a workaround, but can I provide some advice if/when you do?
The first thing is to remove both versions from your system completely, even if there is a legitimate reason for using both versions. Then run setup.exe through “setup/rebuild” again and see if that works. If it doesn’t work, then delete the 32-bit version and try deleting the 64-bit one again.
If you need more help than that, please let us know!
